I grew up in New Jersey, where I became a Christ-follower as a junior in high school, but I have lived most of my adult life in Richmond, Virginia, and Annapolis, Maryland, before moving to Berlin. Janice my wife and I, my ‘youth group sweetheart’, have three adult children, Dan, Mark, and Sarah, and ‘soon to be’ six grandchildren.

Prior to joining the SonRise staff as our Executive Pastor in August of 2016, I served for 2 years as a Church Strengthening Strategist for the Baptist Convention of Maryland and Delaware, where I helped to lead efforts to strengthen local congregations in the areas of spiritual growth and leadership development as well as strategic and operational support.

Prior to my ministry at BCMD, I served 14 years as the Executive Pastor at Riva Trace Baptist Church, where I was responsible for overseeing all staff, adult groups and discipleship as well as church operations. I also served as the project lead for the funding, construction and relocation of the church to a new 65,000 square foot facility in 2006 and the launching of The Preschool at Riva Trace in 2012.

Prior to beginning my services as an executive pastor, I gained over 15 years of corporate experience as manager and executive in high growth environments, leading both small project teams and large departments. I served in the role of Chief Information and Technology Officer in companies such as Mars Music, a start-up and rapidly growing specialty retailer, and Crown Books/Dart Group, a group of retail chains. I also served as Director of Corporate Systems at Circuit City where I provided business solutions for the corporate departments and staff during the company’s growth from $240 million in sales to over $6 billion in sales.

God has used the book “Halftime: Moving from Success to Significance” by Bob Buford to serve as a catalyst to call me into pastoral ministry for the second half of my life.

Since 2002, I have also has served as a national instructor for Walk Thru the Bible, an organization that seeks to ignite a passion for God’s Word, primarily through an innovative, interactive live-event format. More recently, I became a certified facilitator for both Lead Like Jesus and StratOp, a strategic and operational planning process and a certified life coach through CoachNet. I have also served as a church partner/consultant and coach for pastors with both Intentional Churches and The Caleb Advisory Group.

Since following God’s call, I have earned a Certificate in Biblical Studies from Capital Bible Seminary, Lanham, Md., and a Masters of Divinity degree from Rockbridge Seminary. I completed the executive program in managing information technology from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and has an undergraduate business management degree from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
