I am happily married to Cathy and have 3 children, and 6 grandchildren. I worked for Merial Select in Berlin as Operations Manager for over 23 years. This experience and my love of the Lord is what ultimately got me the new position of Property Manager at SonRise Church.
I gave my heart to Jesus at age 33. Shortly thereafter, I was baptized publicly by Rev. Jay Hurley at Nelson’s United Methodist Church located in Hebron, MD. I spent about a decade at Nelson’s United Methodist Church serving as Youth Leader and Usher. I coached the Hebron Lions Youth Soccer Club for 8 years. We moved and spent over a decade at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury, MD. While at Emmanuel, I served on the board of directors, sang in the choir, participated in plays, and helped with managing a new 2,500 seat sanctuary. I also maintained and trained others to maintain the church HVAC and Mechanical Systems.
In the summers, I coached several youth baseball teams over a span of a decade. I am currently at OakRidge Baptist Church (sister to SonRise) located in Salisbury where my son Neil Helgeson Jr. is on their staff as one of their music ministry leaders. He leads two services in the Unplugged Acoustic venue at 9 and 10:30 am each Sunday.
My hobbies are baseball, soccer, football, carpentry, yard work, and most importantly looking after my beautiful grand-babies! The most recent achievement was inducted into the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006 for my baseball playing years between 1983-1992.
